Prof Yip’s keynote draws from a book of the same title, which he co-wrote with Prof Bruce McKern. Prof Yip explains key points as to how China is going to succeed in becoming an innovative economy and dominate the global markets. In the book, the authors emphasized that:
“Chinese companies are buying the market access, the brands, the technology, and the human expertise that will allow them to mount a formidable innovation challenge to the incumbent companies of the developed countries… China’s government is fully committed to helping Chinese companies to become insiders in foreign markets.”
Prof George Yip is the Professor of Marketing and Strategy, and Associate Dean for Executive Programmes at Imperial College Business School. He has held several academic positions in big business schools around the world such as:
- Professor of Strategy and Co-Director of the Centre on China Innovation (China Europe International Business School)
- Dean of Rotterdam School of Management (Erasmus University)
- faculty at Harvard, UCLA, Cambridge Judge, and London Business School.
Although he is most known in the academic realm, Prof Yip has also had years of experience in the business sector. He was Vice President and Director of Research & Innovation at Capgemini Consulting, senior manager at Price Waterhouse (USA), manager at Unilever, and various boards.
Prof George Yip is also the author of several books like China’s Next Strategic Advantage: From Imitation to Innovation (2016), Strategic Transformation: Changing While Winning (2013), Managing Global Customers (2007), Asian Advantage: Key Strategies for Winning in the Asia-Pacific Region (1998), and Total Global Strategy (1992 and 2012). Additionally, he has over 100 publications in journal such as Strategic Management Journal, Harvard Business Review, MIT Sloan Management Review and California Management Review.
Professor Yip is a staple at international conferences, especially those held by by Business Week, Far Eastern Economic Review, Forbes, Fortune, Global Competitiveness Forum (Saudi Arabia), Global Digital Leaders Summit, Global HR Forum (Seoul), Pacific Economic Congress (Vladivostok), World Economic Forum (Davos, Seoul, Singapore, Dalian, and Tianjin), and World Chinese Economic Forum (Beijing).
