Lei Wang 王雷

First Chinese Woman to Climb the World’s Seven Summits and Ski to both the North Pole and the South Pole

Growing up in Beijing, Lei Wang was a typical city girl, who spent her youth buried in books and excelling in schoolwork. She holds a B.S. degree in Computer Science from Tsinghua University in Beijing, an M.S. degree in Computer Science from UNC Chapel Hill and an MBA degree in Finance and Marketing from the Wharton School. She was on track for a promising career in information technology until one day in 2004, when she discovered her passion for mountaineering and set her dream on the World’s Seven Summits and Two Poles.

Had no athletic training in her previous life, she started with running, from one mile to Marathon, to build the basic fitness foundation and learning the craft of climbing from scratch. She gave up a normal life to dedicate all of herself to this undertaking and overcame many physical and ideological challenges with her commitment and determination.

Her remarkable journey culminated at the top of Mount Everest on May 24th, 2010. With that climb, she became the first Chinese woman who has successfully climbed the highest peak on each of the seven continents and skied to both the North Pole and the South Pole.

Her story of courage and dedication has earned world-wide media attention, including CCTV, CNN and numerous others.

All the attendees were extremely impressed by your achievement and loved your presentation. It’s refreshing to find someone who doesn’t have super-human physical ability, yet has achieved the goals many professional athletes will consider impossible. You may be happy to know that I have been running a lot more frequently and longer distance since your presentation! You are a true inspiration!

Dulwich College Beijing were delighted to welcome Lei Wang to the school in June. Her achievements are inspiring, but the manner in which she spoke about them was even more remarkable. Students were able to relate to her as someone who had chosen to take up an enormous challenge, and through hard work and determination had realized her extraordinary goals. At the end of the presentation it was clear that it is not just Lei’s achievements that are inspiring, she is an inspiring character.

Lei immediately engaged her audience and showed how someone with no special natural talent for mountain climbing could set lofty goals and persevere against heavy odds to achieve them. Lei’s story is perfect for organizations who wish to show employees that perseverance, teamwork, and planning are all that is required to achieve big things.
