Michael Dodd is a communication-boosting international speaker and former broadcast journalist who helps professionals get their message across – face-to-face, in the news media and on the web. He’s had speaking engagements on six continents. In Asia, he’s spoken in Beijing, Singapore, Tokyo and Osaka. Michael’s been awarded the “New Speaker of the Year” title from the Academy for Chief Executives.
Born in Australia and living in the UK, Michael became a political reporter and foreign correspondent for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation based in London and Berlin after being trained in the art of asking what are known Down Under as “blowtorch-on-the-belly” questions. One of his specialty areas is to show audiences how to give great answers to such questions by equipping them with the golden formulae to respond to tough questions, nasty questions and tricky questions.
He sometimes conducts demonstration interviews on stage with audience volunteers – and gives them a rapid presentational “makeover” in the process. By doing this he helps audiences to improve the content, structure and delivery style of their future answers. Michael also shows audiences how to enhance their presentation skills – whether it’s for short “elevator pitches” when they meet prospects in a lift through to longer presentations for large audiences with and without slides.
As a freelance foreign correspondent, Michael’s current affairs reports appeared on BBC World Service programs Europe Today, Europe This Weekend and Europe’s World. He’s frequently been interviewed as a commentator on Sky News, the BBC, Al Jazeera and done hundreds of TV newspaper reviews. Michael has presented the BBC’s “Global” program. He is a Fellow of the Professional Speaking Association and has served two terms as President of the Association’s fast-growing London Region.
